"Pixels" was one of those movies I found myself becoming interested in. As someone who considers himself a video game fan, I was blown away by the pixelated versions of Donkey Kong and the like rampaging through a city. However, as I watched more of the movie trailer, I found myself less interested in seeing the film in question. With the power of advertising, though, could fleet graphics have made a difference? At the very least, it's something to think about.
After all, you have to consider that many other companies have implemented fleet graphics in the past. According to companies such as JMR Graphics, these high-quality vinyl wraps are not only able to hold up over time, but they can possess the sharpest appearances to boot. Without question, these graphics can depict all types of products, movies included. It's for this reason that I have to wonder if "Pixels" could have benefited from these tools.
I am sure that, if designed well, fleet graphics could have helped "Pixels" early on. It's easy to see why this movie generated interest, at the start, since it featured a number of iconic characters and identities from gaming culture. Donkey Kong and the Space Invader aliens are just a few examples, but they can be easily identified by anyone who's even remotely knowledgeable about games. With that said, I have a hard time believing that these graphics could have made a bigger impact for "Pixels."
Once "Pixels" was released in theaters, it did not take long for the film in question to be met with negative press across the board. Adam Sandler movies - or films featuring the actor in question - have been received poorly as of late, as it seems like his brand of comedy has struggled to gain positive press. The writing in "Pixels" has been subpar as well, which leads me to believe that no cast could make the film work. More than anything else, "Pixels" is an interesting visual piece that will be soon forgotten.
Even though "Pixels" may not have benefited much from them, fleet graphics are likely to help many other brands as well. They can generate awareness to some of the highest levels, and the fact that they can promote a litany of products cannot be easily ignored. With that said, product quality matters, so make sure that your wares are up to par with expectations. If this proves to be the case, the aforementioned graphics will be nothing short of worthwhile.
