Top Mystery Books For Adults

By Margaret Young

Mysteries are fascinating to unravel. Good writers are those who can wrap up a story in such mystery that you cannot let go of it until the last page. Such a book captures your imagination such that it is impossible to disentangle from the story. There are authors who have produced classic mystery books for adults through their plots and narrative styles. Here are some of the best titles.

Stephen King is known for his ability to weave a believable story. In his novel The Revival, A Novel, he tells of a bond that develops between a young boy and a pastor who has just arrived at his town. The mysterious bond results in a relation that is difficult to understand by all means. They share similar grief and have to deal with demons to survive. King has spread the narration across several decades and ends on a terrifying note.

Thrill lovers will love the work of Lee Child in the novel Personal, A Jack Reacher Novel. It is a story about a former cop in the US police department tasked with unraveling the secret behind the attempted shooting of the French president. He knows the only person who can fire from such a range and he has to find him.

The police department has given up on the case involving the murder of Chris Harper. Just before they close the file, a note surfaces declaring I KNOW WHO KILLED HIM. It is freshly written. It is the work of Antoinette Conway and Moran Stephen to unravel the mysteries that define the lives of teenagers. Tana French has managed to weave a mysterious story in the novel The Secret Place.

The Wolf in White Van is the work of John Danielle. It features the story of Phillips Sean who uses his life in confinement after a disfiguring accident to create a video game. The problem arises when two lovers of the game decide to actualize what happens in the game. Follow the story to discover what happens eventually.

Johnson Denis is the writer behind The Laughing Monsters. It is about two friends who come together after a decade of separation. Ronald returns to Sierra Leone to visit Adriko and his wife-to-be. The trio embarks on a journey through the jungle to Uganda. Unknown to any of them, each is on a personal mission. It will surprise you to discover that relationships are bound by mysteries.

Terry Hayes does an excellent Job with the title I Am a Pilgrim. It attempts to unravel the secret that connects four foul murders. Each of them is brutal and would best be forgotten in the shortest time possible. But to a retired CIA agent, this is what he should have been doing all his active life. He has a chance to rediscover his investigative instincts.

Mysteries are the glue that binds the narratives in great novels. Each reader is interested in a particular category of mysteries. Writers on the other hand adopt a style that will keep you glued and turning pages until the last sentence in a novel. The above titles are an example of a combination of excellent writing style and superb narratives.
