There are different kinds of artworks and paintings according to the medium being used, like charcoal painting, oil paintings, watercolor and many others. The medium being used in the paintings vary from the character and the expertise of the painter. But whatever the materials used, we must always take good care of these items because they are works of art, and here are some ways to help you with it.

Remember to take proper caution when you handle these paintings. As much as possible avoid your fingers to make a physical contact the art itself. You may not know but your skin secretes natural oils and that might spread unto the paintings which could cause severe damage to it. In order to avoid physical contact, always use a clean white gloves when handling these items.

When it comes to displaying these items, you should beware on where to place them. Do not display them in a spot where the heat of the sun can pass through. Remember that these are very delicate things and sunlight could damage them. It could fade the color of the art and would be replaced with a yellowish color. Pick a spot where there is no excessive sunlight.

Never display these items also to a place in your house where there is an excessive heat, like at the back of refrigerator or near the stove, or anywhere where there is considerable amount of heat. This is actually the best enemy of most artworks. The heat will speed up the chemical reaction and it could cause dryness and degradation of materials.

When storing those paintings which are not displayed, make sure that you keep it in a dry, clean and dark area. Ensure that the room is always clean and that there is no enormous heat that surrounds the room which could possibly destroy these items. Lie flat those which are not framed and see to it that it is not blocking the way so that it would not be stepped on.

Artworks would usually get dusty through time so make sure that you clean them. Use only a soft feather duster when removing the dust away from your paintings. For picture glasses, do not over spray any cleaning agent unto the glass because it might cause a bit foggy. Use a cleaner that is suitable for those types of glasses.

Avoid the do it yourself repair for paintings if you are not an expert. To be safe, consult someone who can do repairs in the framing of your painting or who could restore the painting itself. Just leave this aspect to the expert because they have wider knowledge as to how they will restore you precious arts so that it can be displayed again in your homes.
