8 Important Tips On How To Prepare For Talent Competitions In Pennsylvania

By Donald West

Preparation is key to getting past the audition stage in talent competitions. Unfortunately, many people who have raw talent do not realize their potential because they simply don't do enough practicing. Here are eight key tips that will help you prepare for talent competitions in Pennsylvania.

Convey confidence from the moment you enter the room. Body language toward the judges is critical. They want to see a confident performer with charisma. Make sure you have your walk and posture nailed. I can't over emphasis how important this is. This will help your vocal delivery and performance. Also, by acting confident you become confident.

Don't make excuses. Don't tell the judges that you have the flu. It won't make the slightest bit of difference. Just do you best on the day. Don't apologize if you hit a wrong note, just continue. Stay positive throughout your audition.

Pick a song that you know well, and that you can hit all the notes relatively easily. This is particularly the case at auditions. An interesting song sung well should be enough to get you through the audition phase. Save the hard stuff for later on in the competition.

While it may be hard to hear, criticism is often the best opportunity to identify areas of opportunity for improvement. If possible, have your family and or friends watch your child's performance before the gift show. Whether your child is signing, acting, or dancing, good constructive advice that's not overly critical can help your child see themselves as others do.

Be able to adapt and attend as many auditions as possible. If the judges ask you to sing in a different style, try it. Listen to them and do your best. If you show an ability to adapt when under pressure you will earn brownie points in the judges' eyes. Experience is what you need and talent show auditions are the best way to get it. You will grow as a performer even if you don't get selected all the time.

Switch off your phone. Switch your mobile off or give it to a friend outside. Do not have it turned on during the audition. This is one way to annoy the judges. Read up on the judges; understand their bio. Find out about their tastes. Understand what they will be looking for. You would be amazed at how many people who audition don't do this one basic thing. However, those that do it have a huge advantage.

Simply put, it takes more than just courage to make it in a talent competition. In order to position yourself for success, ensure to cultivate confidence, avoid excuses, be flexible and keep a positive attitude.
