Meditation With Mindful Harp Music

By Richard Howard

It can be played on compact disc or if more fortunate listened to at a live concert. Mindful harp music is absolutely awesome when wanting to unwind and sounds like running river water flowing down a river of pebbles. This is an image that can be brought to mind whilst relaxing and wanting to completely unwind.

The mind can have millions of thoughts running through it from images to plenty of other thoughts that come in and out of it. It is time to quieten it down with a meaningful exercise that one can practice every day of the week and month. It allows the practitioner time to unwind and just be whilst practicing an art that has been around for centuries.

By giving oneself half an hour of the day to focus on oneself, it is a time that can be used to bring the body back into a state of rest. To do this one must make sure there is not distractions and this means cellular phones turned off and ensuring that one will not be disturbed at all. It is best to lay down on one's back and get as comfortable as possible whilst doing this exercise.

One can sit or better yet lay down on a comfortable surface and get comfortable. The time period initially can be about half an hour and once used to this time one can increase it as required. Whilst laying down, preferably on the back, breathe deeply slowly and rhythmically whilst also being aware of exhaling just as slowly.

One will be amazed at the millions of thought processes that are going on. From flashing images and other thoughts, try to picture a letter of the alphabet with a backdrop of white light. This helps slow the mind down whilst trying to keep this image in the mind's eye. One must not be concerned if one cannot maintain the image for a long period of time when it is replaced by other thoughts but must calmly bring it back into focus when one can.

When breathing becomes slow and rhythmic start to focus on how one is feeling and try to feel the tension in the rest of the body. This allows one to become aware as to the state of stress the body is in whilst concentrating on the music in the background. One may get restless and agitated but it is best to allow these feelings to pass and enter a deeper state of consciousness.

It is something that one should work into one's regimen for the week as many go through life often not allowing themselves to tone down and just be. Try keeping still throughout the entire exercise and if this is hard to do, just concentrate on the playing. This will divert one's focus to a different focal point whilst allowing the body to relax.

Doing meaningful exercises such as this goes a long way in improving the way one feels about oneself. The harp is a great instrument and its music divine. There is no better place to start relaxing than with it.
